runny nose and sore back

Hi - been back on the commute for a month.

Two questions:

1: runny nose - is it 'cos it's cold or is it the leftovers from a Januarys cold?

2: Sore lower back by the end of the week - just getting used to being back on the bike or need to work on core strength? Does Pilates work or just more gym work in general?

Thanks

I've found core strength exercises help loads with the sore back. It also helps with numbness in the hands as well. Basically the stronger your core muscles aren the easier it is to support yourself on the bike.

I usually find I have a runny nose when it's cold outside and not just because I have a cold, I think it's something to do with the temperature differential.

Noses run in the cold - it's what happens. It doesn't mean you have a cold.

The sore back may just be because it's not used to the position, not strong enough yet, or because the bike doesn't fit very well. Worth ruling out the latter before working on the former.
