Given I only live a couple of miles away I guess I ought to see what this track malarky is all about.
Can you just rock up and ride, or do you have to specific training/ride in a group etc?
Cost?
I have a fixed commuter (possibly undergeared for track @ 42:16) and it would be 2 minutes work to lose the front brake for the duration of the session.0 -
You need to do the induction at Herne Hill before you can ride regularly. They are held every Saturday @ 0845.
It costs £3 for the induction then another £3 for the skills session afterwards.
42x16 is around 69 inches which is far too low. You'll need a gear between 80 and 90 inches if you want to keep up.
More info can be found at the VCL's web page on Herne Hill;

Yes you can just turn up, Need a helmet and thats it. Costs £3 (last year) and that includes free bike hire..Need to get there about 8.45 to start at 9.
After induction you can go straight out on the next session which is normal trainning, thats another £3.
If its rainning, or the track is wet they will not let anyone on the track.
See you there.0 -
opps looks like its now £4 induction. Then £6 for the next session..
Also take some cash for the cafe so you can get cuppa tea and a bacon roll.0 -

Herne Hill Velodrome is one of best cycling tracks in UK.
It was hot and sunny, and the racing was great!
Beers and Bikes! Its really great ! !
I plan on racing there this season.0 -
Herne Hill initially appeared in 1798, when the area was farms and woodland. It has been suggested that it derives from previously being called Heron's Hill, as the River Effra attracted a large number of herons.
