edited March 2009 in MTB buying advice
Guy's, I am new to the MTB world and moved over from Road bikes and am in need of advice on which hardtail to go for on budget of around £500-£600.

I have seen Kona Caldera 2008 for £499 and have been offered Cube Acid with 10% off from lbs for £540.

Cube looks sexy and has deore shifter's, front mech and xt rear with hayes stroker brakes and rock shox dart 3 forks.

Any advice on which to go for or any other idea's would be much appreciated. Thanks.

well the Dart fork is poor. but what fork is on the Kona?

deore/XT what every it all wares out son enough and will be replaced but forks if right from the start can go through a few set of gear upgrades.

Thats around Boardman Comp sorta money if you add a few quid (admittedly not quite the same as you have stated) but the spec is very good, air forks - RS Recons , Juicy 3's, X5/X7.

Always worth a look and XC based for that old roadie in you.

Thanks for the responses. I ordered Kona Caldera this morning as for 499 was too good to pass on.

Looked for the Boardman comp 2008 but none left in 18" in UK - or so Halfords say.

Yup, I just been told the same, only 2009 models left which are whopping £700. Iv seen the Boardman Team for £999, was drooling over it, one side saying BUY IT, another saying "dont be stupid" :D

Is a new Trek 6300 for £500 good price? It does have Dart 3's on, but considering on upgrading in the shop.

I would stil get the Kona Caldera 2008 on Rutland cycles.

Cost last year 700 reduced to 500 and this years is less spec and 850!

Comes with xt rear, deore front and shifters, stroker trail hydraulics and rock shox tora which are better than dart 3.
