I went to my LBS today to buy a new chain for my trusty old SCR.

Of course I had to have a look at all the nice new shiny bikes whilst I was there, It would have been rude not to.

I know the owner quite well and he offered me a test ride on a Giant TCR C1. This is when the problem occured.

To cut a long story short I ended up buying it. So now I have to convince the 'management' that this really was the most cost effective way of buying a new chain!!

In trouble? Pah! I would have done the same damn thing.

That's a lovely machine! I'll look forward to your mini-review, which I expect on my desk by 9am Monday morning :D

Option 1: Tell her you nicked it.
    Option 2: Divorce her.
Option 3: Poke her eyes out so she'll never know.

I'd go for the first if I were you.

Option 4: The manager of the shop was looking over your bike, and advised that in addition to the chain a whole bunch of other things needed replacing. In the end it was cheaper to buy a new bike....

Surely it's not that big of a problem, "The management" can't cause too much damage whilst chained to the kitchen sink.

Must say, it's a lovely new chain though.

If it's your money, what's the issue with spending it?

He never said it was his money.

But you did say IF. If it is his money I agree with you reddraggon, but if they both p**s in the same pot so to speak, there could be an issue.

You did buy a new chain - just happens it was an expensive one with a free bike attached to it.

Your usernames out of date tho' now.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

but when explaining this ad in lots of technical jargon, they seem to zone out after a few minutes and think about shoes instead,

Fantastic, I wish the management in our household would show that much interest!
Got told off today for bringing the bike in to adjust the cones on my wheels, do you guys do bike maintenance inside or outdoors?.

The new bike is allowed to stay in the kitchen overnight until I sort the garage out.... It is all going to well.

It is just as bad going in to the LBS with SWMBO. Went into Stonehenge cycles about a month ago just to gather information to maybe buy a new bike later in the yearwith her .Walked out with an Orbea ONIX tour. The fact she still has more bikes than me might explain it. And this It feels lighter and faster than my tricross but the slowest thing is still the pilot.

I was going to say "It's been nice knowing you" but it seems that you have found the holy grail, a boss who likes/accepts your cycling.
Either that or you're going to pay..... BIG

I hate to say it, but you knew how "management" would react before you even went into that shop. Now you're crying in your beer(if you're allowed to have any after all this).
You knew the rules, and the questions -
What's wrong with the one you've got?
Couldn't you have at least put some of the parts from your old one on it instead
    of buying everything new?
Where are WE supposed to come up with the money? I can't pull it out of my ass.
What about the car insurance that's coming due next month?
Well, I guess we won't be going out to eat anytime soon?
    I hope you're happy?
And so on, and so on.
It's a major screw up on your part. Learn from this if you can and try to develope
    a little restraint.

Thank you all for your words of 'encouragement':wink:
I wish I could have resisted the temptation.... but I couldn't.
I have employed the managerial tact of " it was in the sale" "I have saved us loads of money"

The management has just made me promise that i'll use it :wink:

So that means that I have been given unlimited day release to 'use' the bike.:wink:
