Leipheimer broke his back when he stacked after touching wheels with Armstrong on stage three of the Tour of California. How did he manage to finish *and* win the TT?!
It's all a bit Tyler Hamilton and his broken collar bone, innit... :P

It was probably the same rotten luck that saw Armstrong have to ride the Galibier with his back brake locked to the rim in 2003. He didn't notice until the descent you know, and thus had wasted too much energy to chase Iban Mayo."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

and don't forget "One hip Landis".
Frightening to think how much better than everybody else, these guys are.
Winning the ITT from an in form Dave Zee with a broken back.
You know, I could never understand, after he won that final Tour ITT, in 2007, how he managed to drop over 6 minutes (that magic figure again) in each of the previous year's ITT's."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

I think calling it a "broken back" is dramatising it a bit , visions of Levi not walking again when i read the headlines.
MGGasping - but somehow still alive !0 -
Of course its broken, no way he could bend over like that otherwise!0

I'm surprised we haven't had the obvious "broke back mounting" jib."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0

One can fracture a vertebrae and never know it.
