Bristol to Cardiff

Hi all,
i want to cycle from bristol to cardiff, was wondering if anyone had thoughts on the best way - especially accross the bridge - is it true i cant cycle the new bridge cos that adds on quite a few more miles if not!. also there are alot of main roads so thoughts on these/ways round them would be appreciated!

NCN Cycle route # 4 takes you most of the way, then a left turn onto 8 to Cardiff, there are good paths either side of the old Severn Bridge, the rest is about 50/50 traffic free/quiet roads. Mostly well signposted.
