Crowdriders is an initiative to start a professional cycling team (in the 2010 season) with an international crowd of 40.000 cycling enthusiasts. CrowdRiders’ members become owners and managers of this professional cycling team having a vote in all the major decisions affecting the cycling team. Among other things CrowdRiders will have a vote in which riders to attract, which races to ride, riders selection, who should be the sports director of the team and what should be the team’s (internal) anti-doping policy. Even the team’s jersey design will be democratically elected.
It looks like it is not only the british sky team that will be entering the peloton in 2010!!
What do you reckon: crazy or doable?

Didnt I-Team Nova try this a while back?
I suppose the nearest thing is MyFC (which is mentioned on the site) but that has struggled through second season blues and may have to cut its budget.
The key question will be how much?0 -
rapha condor already have a sort of lite version of this.. the rapha condor club members paying a grand each... they get to race in Condor colours if they wish and all0

Oh 55 Euro, it says on the site...0

Didn't work for Toyota United, only works as an added extra for Garmin and so on. Euskatel is as near as you get and that's practically a national team anyway.0

None of them had direct voting power for its members though.
Voting for which sports director to attract, race calendar, jersey design and rider selection thats what makes CrowdRiders so different from iteamnova, Toyota United, Gramin,......etc.
Plus their is of course the fact that every member's name will be embroidered in the team jersey and depicted on the team bus.
It's definitely quite different.I like cycling but I LOVE crazy cycling ventures

How is the interest going so far?
I would be well up for getting involved, but I would want the exchange rate to the Euro a bit better first0
