I've just been replacing my cassette and middle ring as per my last post (thanks chaps its fixed the jumping)
Anyway, whilst everything was in bits I gave the rest of the divetrain a clean, when I had finished I found a rubber "thing" on the floor under the rear derailler, it is a Deore LX.
It has shimano written on it and looks as if should wrap around some part of the derailler to stop muck etc getting in. Its about 2" long x 1" wide with a little rubber hook that appears to go into a hole at the other end. But for the life of me I cant see where it should go, I've tried looking on Shimano website, and other websites like CRC to see if I can find it in position but had no luck.
So I am wondering if any of you good people can shed some light on it. :?:
Thanks
Oddy
P.s Sorry for the rubbish explanation, I have tried taking and uploading some piccies, but im having some technical difficulties.

chain stay mech protector. fits onto the mech where it would hit the chainstay."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

It's not a vital part, depends on whether the mech on your bike can contact the chain stays or not. I nearly took mine off my XTR mech as it seems to trap grit and muck. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0
