What size top clamp?

I recently purchased a bighit frame and assorted parts off a friend, but had to buy a fork off ebay. I won a manitou sherman slider 2004 eventually, but it was missing the top crown. I went on the Manitou website and came across the service guide:

which has the option of a replacement small or large top clamp kit. I took a few measurements, not sure what is relevant though:
steerer tube length:8 inches
head tube length: 13.5cm or 5.3 inches
handlebar stem: 2 inches
my instinct is to go for the small and use spacers if necessary, but i'm not sure how well that would work? any help would be appreciated.
