Having seen the area I'd imagine it was a young man 19-21. Never see older riders there as often. The paper website users sometimes get a little tetchy when it comes to older drivers.... so be warned.

POLICE have closed a busy Southampton road after a man was seriously injured when he was knocked off his bike.

Aldermoor Road has been cordoned off at its junction with Coxford Road and Waltham Crescent following the crash involving a car at 3.15pm.

The accident happened close to the Bradbury Centre and paramedics and police are at the scene.

The injured man is thought to have suffered a broken pelvis and is being treated at the roadside. The 74-year-old driver of the Ford Fusion car was not hurt.

Police are appealing for drivers to avoid the area and have asked anyone with information to call 0845 045 4545

No need to worry, the driver was unhurt.

They always report it like that.

A lady pulled out on a motorcyclist last week and ended up in hospital herself. You cant always garantee the driver will be ok. We have a lot of motorcyclist/cyclist-car collisions here and near about.

    Thank goodness for that
  • I know that junction well, one of our shops in that precinct at the top end of Aldermoor road. There is often a queue of traffic at the lights leaving Southampton General Hospital at the top end of Coxford Road, blocking the entrance and exit of Aldermoor Road.

The junction, as well as the bit outside Branbury Centre is pretty damn wide, albeit that cars often park up along there.

Curious how the accident happened (Im guessing the traffic queues opposite the Woodman pub had something to do with it. Hope the cyclist pulls through...

Not to be a c**t about it but can I draw your attention to:

    - a man was seriously injured when he was knocked off his bike.
    - The injured man is thought to have suffered a broken pelvis and is being treated at the roadside.

Of course you may wish the driver had been critically injured, I don't know.

Its horrendous from about 1pm onwards down there. Drivers get stuck in traffic and get irate, horns get beeped etc.. I've seen drivers suddenly do u-turns from a queue of traffic and tear off in the opposite direction, or pull out of a queue and use the wrong side of the road to access a turn further up.

Could be any number of reasons for it happening, someone on the comments section who often posts there has said he saw it and it was the cyclists fault. Sadly in most cases we dont get to find out if this is the case.
