Chainrings

I want to replace the chainrings on my Shimano LX Hollowtech 2 (or 1, can't remember) crank.
Beeen looking around and a lot of the deals on the chainrings at the moment don't seem to be on ones that will fit my crank, I am presuming normal 4 bolt ones won't???
The genuine shimano ones at near rrp prices are expensive.
Anyone know of any alternatives to genuine Shimano I can use? Or any good deals on Shimano at the moment?
Cheers
Craig.

I could probably get away with just middle and inner.
Where is the best place to get the steel ones from, how much do they cost?
Do they weigh much more than aluminiunm?
cheers

Is it HT1 or HT2? If you get the wrong ones, you 'll have to do some filing.0

Thanks for that.
Will they fit hollowtech 2 and 1? It says on the description 'fits the LX splined chainset'.
Not sure which I've got just bought an i drive frame which included bb and chainset.
Can have a look tonight and see if it says which it is on it.0 -
It can be cheaper to replace the whole crank.
You need to identify exactly what you have.0 -

Ye I'll need to find out, will have a look tonight, at work at the mo.
The ones at Merlin, will they fit Hollowtech 1 and 2's?0 -
They can sometimes need some filing if fitted for the opposite HT crank. Best to get the right ones.0

Ok thanks.
So which ones do they fit? Hollowtech 1 or 2?0 -
HT1 ie octalink stuff.0

Sorry, I'm probably missing something really obvious here.
Do they fit Hollowtech cranks?0 -
Hollowtech One and Hollowtech Two are two different designs of chainset. The latter uses an integrated axle and slightly different chainring design.
The former, Ht1 stuff uses either a square taper bottom bracket or octalink.
The chainrings you link to are for the LX HT1 standard.0 -
What year chainset is it? Have you got a pic?
Newer HT2 M580 LX with integrated axle and external bb looks like this:http://mos.bikeradar.com/images/bikes-and-gear/components/chainset/Chainset_shim_lx-399-75.jpg
Older M572 LX looks like this:http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Images/Models/Full/2369.jpg2006 Giant XTC
2010 Giant Defy Advanced
2016 Boardman Pro 29er
2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4

I'm pretty sure it is the HT2 then. But will have a look as soon as I get home and the n re-post
Thanks for your help so far guys.0 -
Ok got it sorted!
Had a look and they are definantly Hollowtech 2, written on it as plain as day! and obviously matches the picture on the link previously posted.
Think will be ok with just the middle ring, so will be cheaper than replacing the whole chainset.
Just need to find one now, seems like Merlin and CRC don't have any.0 -
Can someone let me know that I'm looking at the right chainring (fingers crossed).
Just to re-cap it is a Shimano LX Hollowtech 2 chainset.
