After a response on a past post i was thinking about getting a new bar and stem for my trek 4300 disk. I am pretty hooked on the Truvativ husselfelt bar and stem, seeing as i wont be hitting that bigger drops. Does this sound like a good idea?

Not really, to be honest. Probably be heavier than what you have, but for what gain?

What is wrong with the ones you have? Upgrades on an XC bike should be about dropping weight really.

Agree with Supersonic on this, but saying that, if YOU want to do it, do it, it's YOUR bike :)

The hussefelts are pretty hefty, aren't they? If it's got to be truvativ (for some mad reason :) ) then maybe Team?

Agreed, Husselfelf is heavy duty stuff, with a considerable weight penalty. A different shape/width bar or different size/rise stem can be very useful to tweak position, but if you are happy with the position then I wouldn't bother!
I have a fairly wide (26 inch) bar on my XC bike - I love the extra control it gives!

The Team is for XC, and I think he needs some that can handle a few feet
drops without worrying of braking them.
Then I suggest you to use mine. Truvativ XR stem and bar.
They are rated for XC-AM and they are cheap.

Mine are 700mm bar and 75mm stem. 2008, the 2009 stem looks ugly.

He did say he won't be hitting the bigger drops though.

The Team stuff is strong enough for smaller drops certainly, I've got a Truvativ Team stem on both my Stumpjumper and my Zaskar, very light weight for the price, lovely finish and grips the bar very nicely too (as oppose to those which have a tiny contact area and feel like they'd make carbon explode). The Zaskar has the carbon Truvativ Team bars on as well, they're a bit narrow for my liking but only fractionally (660mm), I get used to it 5 mins into a ride anyway.

The team stem's mint... Mine is stuck in a box somewhere since I stupidly bought regular sized monkeylites :(
