For my business a-level i am required to market a product. My idea is very breif so please no advice on why it will or won't work, pretend garmin engineered it and not me for the purposes of this.Below is a product description:

The GPStem will be a mountain bike stem with the garmin edge 305 built in, the screen will sit flush to the top surface on the stem. This will mean that it’s not obtrusive and cannot be damaged in anyway. The mountain bike stem is the item of componentry that clamps the forks and assists in the tightening of the headset. It’s main function however is to act as the steering arm of the bike. Different lengths of stem are favoured dependant on the way in which the bike handles; therefore I will be producing this product in the normal size increments. In addition there are two different clamp sizes for the handlebars, in which ill offer both sizes for user flexibility.

Could ask many people as possible complete my survey below, this will form part of my market reasearch!

    submitted....

quick bit of advice would be that there are many different lengths/rises of stem, so would be an expenisve thing for someone to buy if they were unsure on their perfect stem setup..

    Just my 2p worth
  • How would you charge it? Would it be removeable to enable connection to a charger? Would it be removeable to enable connection to a PC?

good point bob how would you remove it to charge ,also how do you intend to keep the wieght of the stem down to a minimum?

Wouldn`t it be better just to have the attachment built in?

    Agreed. Keep things simple.
I have Garmin eTrex mounts on all three of my mountain bikes. This allows me to swap the eTrex between the bikes with ease

Survey done. BTW the eTrex is a Garmin product, so no idea why it was listed separately
  • Survey done, but why are you restricting it to the 305? You ask if we own other tyypes of GPS - mine is an e-Trex, but you then ask would we buy a 305 dedicated stem. NO.

You also don't give any room for comments on the survey.

It's a good idea to have a more dedicated stem, but you need to "think outside the box", and try and cater for ALL GPS users.

    survey done.

would it be strong enough though? i think that whole area of metal/carbon making the stem gives it strength, chopping the top off and halving it's strength would work?

    good luck :)

Completed. I've got a Garmin E-trex as well. Charging while out using some of those pedal revs could be useful if you're thinking of addtional features
