It is pretty good, prefer the natural stuff myself.... But it is like riding on ice when its damp. Guys in the shop say better ie more grip when either pissing it down, or bone dry. (surprisingly! )

Really rate it for a natural trail, better than Grizedale - more flow.

More Flow?! you joking? maybe on the very last section over the jumps/down bit, but the rest is mainly terrible uphill and theres a massive chunk of fireroad.

Admittedly Grizedale does have quite a bit of fire road, but there is a load more actual trail thats way more fun!

(ps - I've only been whinlatter once which was before xmas, and the trail wasn't bedded in so it could be better now :) )

Best bet at Grizedale is to link in all the other bridleways going through there- fantastic ride on Sunday doing that around 20 miles and only used the last couple and the very first section of the North face trail. :D

  • What did they say in the trail review I haven't read it, doesn't seem to be on this site either. I know what I would like changed and I know what I like about it also. All in all it's my local trail so I give it the thumbs up.

Grizedale is a good trail, i kid you not, but whinlatter is just a faster trail - speed not time :)

I've done Grizedale 4 times - twice on one day, and the trail is very good. But Whinlatter seems more exciting - the berms are more 'flowy' and the trail transferes from section to section better - there is a long singletrack / fireroad climb, but the veiws keep me happy.
Would (just) pick whinlatter over grizedale if i was 'oop north' again

  • fair enough. Grizedale has weathered quite badly tho, needs some maintenance asap!!

Yeah, suprising how quickly puddles and holes in the trail appear. Filled one in once - to the contrary of the signs saying you shouldn't, but it was right after a corner on the outside. Wouldn't normally stop and do it, but I fell off - so it had to ave' it
