Anyone going to sign up for this fairly flat amble around the countryside :?: Sent my form off yesterday. Hopefully the lasses who were wearing bunny ears and fetching lycra outfits will be riding again
What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!

Thanks a_n_t, but I must say that when I fired up Google Earth the route was still far from clear. However, it has given me something to go on.

Hi folks,
Looking at doing this as my first 100 miler. Anything I should be worried about on this, or is it mainly flat?
Around a similar time, gore bikewear are doing a sportive in North Wales (Ruthin, i think?). Think this was run last year, anyone able to offer any advice on which one I should attempt (I would assume North Wales is more hilly)0 -

Fit people say it is flat. It doesn't have any massive hills, but it does have 3,000 feet of small ones. When I was fit, I hardly noticed them. When I wasn't so fit, I certainly did!
Having said that - you probably won't find an easier century than that one. I like the first 75 miles. The run back into Manchester isn't so good because there is a lot of traffic to contend with. Also beware of tired cyclists wobbling about in front of you!0 -
completley agree mate if you are not in good shape it is a slogg as i found out last year after 6 months off the little uphills seem bloody tough lol.
but i still enjoyed it and thought it was really well marshalled i never missed a turn which is unusual for me lolMy bike

I've just been doing some recce'ing of the Ruthin area, as the DaveLloyd Mega Challenge is around there. It is quite demanding.
Having said that, I've just looked at the Ruthin ride your on about, and it ain't too bad.
There's a steady climb up to Lyn Brenig and then up and over the Horseshoe Pass.
Get your training in and you'll be OK for September mate.

I think i'll keep an eye on the closing date for entries then make mind up. Must admit, I would prefer to do the Ruthin ride, as will be a bit more demanding as well as being a bit more scenic than Manchester / Cheshire.
Having said that, possibly won't notice too much of the scenery when all I see is fire through my eyes to match the burning in my legs!!
Training going ok on the flats, but hills.................more practice to be done on those me thinks. Got to find me some decent hills to ride in the warrington / Cheshire area first, anyone with any ideas would be gratefully received.0 -

erm, you're gonna struggle! Get yourself out past Macclesfield and feel the pain!0 -
Hi Papapete,
I am in the same boat as you I think, increasing my mileage and doing a couple of sportives this year with the Manchester 100 a target.
I think the Ruthin 80 looks good and I am doing the Cheshire Cat 37 and C+ 100km at donington as preparation as I have never ridden in a group before!
Anyway there are plenty of short sharp hills around here (I live in Frodsham) and also the likes of Kelsall hill near delamere. send me a pm and will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
Cheers
