SPD-SLs at work

Oh man! Just got into work and realised... that I've left my shoes at home. I went out for a meal Friday night and got a lift home, wearing the pair that I normally keep in the office. I forgot about this over the weekend and worked from home on Monday. It now looks like I'm going to have to spend the whole day in SPD-SLs. I feel like a fool.

Go shoeless if possible. Anything's better than walking around all day in SLs.

I've done that before. Spent most of the day in socks! Will you have to go out for lunch and do you wear a suit at work? If so then yep you're gonna look a fool!

Or cycle home at lunch and grab the shoes?
  • Once and never again. Heard that Barrett's might have a few good deals on at the moment.

Stay in socks for as long as possible.
The doctor said I needed to start drinking more whiskey. Also, I’m calling myself ‘the doctor’ now
  • See, with my SPD shoes, I can kind of get away with it as long as I'm in trousers...

    Hi,
Maybe there's something to be said for wearing (reasonably) nomal shoes for commuting (as per LiT).

I use Shimano MP-90s at the moment (with toeclips). They don't go well with a suit, but they look better than socks or "road" shoes :-)

    Cheers,
    W.

The obvious solution is to just wear the shoes with the rest of your cycling kit, so you don't look daft.
  • Potential gap in the market. SPD's made in the style of dress/smart shoes for the office worker commuters.

    would it work

  • Keeping several pairs of shoes, in various colours, at work obviates the need to turn up at meetings wearing socks or bike shoes. Although it can lead to jealous looks from female colleagues when they realise you have more shoes under your desk than they do.
  • I'm going for it and brazening it out. I'm a university lectuer and while we're meant to be smart there's plenty of room for slippage. Anyway, I've just taught a class in them which at least gave the students a laugh this morning. I plan to keep my head down for the rest of the day...

Already done. Litt's posted about them I think. Can't find the link though!
  • Tip-ex round your cleats and whip em out - done the very same thing myself the other week - you will still clippy clop round the office but at least its a wee bit comfier!

potentially... however the tread would have to be really deep to prevent the cleat clicking on posh surfaces which may not work on the bike so well... also the kind of cyclist that wears SPDs to xommute in will probably have a pair of work shoes stashed in the office anyway. The stiff sole may be uncomfortable to wear non stop and if your feet gety hot and sticky on a ride you wouldn't want to sit in them in the office

I have mtb style spds and I wouldn't want to wear them all day

At work I used to have two pairs of shoes under my desk 8)

Both a pair of steel toe capped boots and slip on Vans  You can never be too prepared

However I did once forget to take a shirt to work with me  Luckily I had a jumper there to put on.

My commuting SPDs are some Adidas touring-type ones and they're not too obvious, if you don't have to wear a suit of course! I wouldn't choose to wear them all day but it wouldn't be disastrous if I had to. The cleat is fairly well recessed and they're not as stiff as most, so there are things you could wear all day out there.
