How was your weekend ride

You ever had one of those weekend (saturday) rides that certain things happen that make it a great experience?

Firstly found a section of the forest way up the hill that had never discovered before and there are at least 4 trails heading down that on a dry day (I hate deep mud puddles!) you could probably fly down no brakes!

Secondly having read the section on this site on how to improve you skill, I put some of them to the test.. and you know what....they work..lol get faster and faster down the trail sections, roots and rocks are not stopping me.. :)

But flying into large muddy puddles take it out of your shoulders and are perfect for those emergency stops...the swines.. I long for the dry...;)

And last but not least.. after 4hours the chain snaps....lol

It's quite amusing having to ride your bike like a skateboard at times, although resting the old fellas on the steering stem leads to a high pitched voice....Rock Shox syndrome anyone?

So how was your weekend riding?

Outstanding. Buff singletrack, dry fireroads and reckless DH. Summer shoes...thin socks...no f**king leg warmers...bliss...

Would have been good, but was cut short buy riding buddies mechanical. He managed do kill his rear mech and shear off a cable guide from the rear swing arm. Wouldn`t have minded only the mech hanger stayed in one piece and the nut holding the mech sheared off, strange.

Went to Haldon on Sunday, pretty much bone dry everywhere, sun was out, shorts on and got to give my new bike a good thrashing

    A good day!

Spent the whole weekend looking after my kids so no biking at all, was looking forward to a spin around Grizedale tonight but all my mates have bailed on me. Don't like doing night rides alone so am giving it a miss and hitting the turbo trainer, but next weekend WILL be different.

    hard...........

spent an hour on sat with a mix on/off road on the singlespeed in preperation for sunday...........

Sunday did Llandegla with the rigid single speed. Only walked on one rocky ascent, with a riding time of less than 1.30 inc all bar the last black. Pleased but upper body is in bits, need to prep the bike for off road :)
  • Brilliant ride yesterday. Garburn Pass, and lots of other big climbs round Staveley/Kentmere. Sun shone all day. 25 miles and 5000'of climbing. Knackered now.

    Suspension needed most!

Now I have done it, the question is will I do it again....................
  • Awesome, but not very trendy.

Me, the wife and a good mate of mine (plus his dog) went off exploring. Pretty tame stuff, cycle paths and parks, nothing that would impress anyone here.

Hugely entertaining none the less though. Was like being 12 again, chasing after his dog on the bikes while it raced along with an unfeasibly large branch in it's mouth.

Spent about 3 hours out in total, a bit sore today.
Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.

if it's got two wheels and moves then no worries....!

Wouldn't mind getting a dog so it could tow me up those hills! ;-)

    mine.....well a bit epic....

    Sat
35ish miles - hellish weather: West Highland Way from secret bothy to Bridge of Orchy; over Mam Carraigh to Victoria Bridge, down Glen Kinglass to Loch Etive, Etive West to Taynuilt, Pub stop, train back to Tyndrum Lower, lights on for gale lashed 6 miles back to secret bothy.

    Sun
30ish miles - windy, cold, showery but mostly dry: West Highland Way to Auch, NE up the Allt Kinglass, anti clockwise around Loch Lyon and back by same route (down the Allt Kinglass, to Auch, then back to secret bothy). A staggering 110 water crossings.

    Great weekend.

    In a word "muddy"

    In two words "muddy brilliant!!"
  • Our Sunday ride was truly fantastic - I'm still stoked about it, and it was 'just' Kirkhill. Lots of grip, surprisingly dry trails, but enough mud to make it interesting. Every descent just seemd to flow right, even the stuff on the fresh tree-cruncher tracks that are just asking for a major stick-in-the-spokes mechanical. Last descent was a head-to head with Dean which was awesome fun to win, and apparently even good fun to watch.
No riding for me for a couple of weeks though, so I'll have to keep the memory of this one warm for a bit yet...

had a great 5 hour 50 miler mix of road/track/brideway all over the island here. biggest problem was trying to stay awake for Lost while fatigue was trying to get me off to sleep, i won the battle though.

on second thoughts the toughest bit was riding up here with my spesh crossroads tyres on in it's slighlty muddy state, 1st gear granny ring getting as much weight on the rear and spinning up it did the job :)

  • Nowt exciting unfortunately as I couldn’t wrestle the car from the wife, so had to make do with a quick hour down and around the local dene.

Bit daft really as I spent a good hour on Saturday cleaning the bike then got it filthy on Sunday morning

hoping to get up to Newcastleton at the weekend.

Good mate good. Was cold and windy up there yesterday, the climbs up there are a beast, had to sack the singletrack and do the fireroad. Can recommend it though, nice and close, not as boring or busy as Kirkhill. Except with 2 of my mates who are like mountain goats....

I had a couple of excellent rides. North 3rd over in Stirling for the first time on Saturday. Some excellent singletrack and good rooty, rocky descents.

On Sunday I did Innerleithen, I took my dog round biking with me for the first time and he was brilliant, stayed with me pretty much the whole time and kept out of the way of the bikes. Had to wait for him a couple of times when he went off 'foraging' but overall a great ride in perfect weather.

A pic of him on the way up.

Had a good one here, threw a diversion onto one of my local loops to take in a patch of steep woods I'd heard good things about, and it turned out to be brilliant, like a little red route right on my doorstep. Spent a lot of the day walking and pushing up hills and exploring, which I love... But ended up totally wearing myself out, my riding muscles may be getting stronger but my dodgy leg's still no good at climbing steep hills with 12 kilos of bike on my back  But still, it was the good tired and sore... Found a random half-dug grave, which I eventually figured out was a half built dirt jump

nice is probably the last word I'd use to describe Pitfichie, more like tough, awesome and gnarly :)

I'm well jealous of you's having that on your door step, the old dear lives in ABZ and I always make sure I call in for a blast when I'm up in that neck of the woods. Its probably one of my fav spots in the UK and I've done quite a few...

Had to make do  with Sherwood Pines this weekend trying to get an old mate back on the saddle after a ride-less winter, wuss! but both he and I did pretty damn well and it was nice to see semi-dry trails too!

Hey Northwind - would that patch of steep woods be the ones east of Bonaly?

  • lenghty ride to the foothills then a long slog up the track then a mental 15 minutes of muddy singletrack, fireroad and horribly loose and deep tractor track, then a train home, too tired to even ride the 50 yard long trail in the park.
