I am looking for a bike rack for my car (audi a6) for my GT MTB. Any recommendation for a good value for money product?

  • Well I have a Saris bones which is quite adjustable and easy to get on and off. But I do have my doubts about it - it's designed for 3 bikes but tbh I've never felf comfortable with 2 bikes on it let alone 3! (not the lightest of bikes though, to be fair). Also, I have had to replace a couple of the screws since I bought it (approx 2 years ago) - I considered this a bit of a weakness. Saying this though, I'm quite happy dirving up the motorway with it when I have Just the one bike on the back and so overall I'm happy with it coz it does the job. Oh, I forgot - the clip straps you can buy to stop the front wheel from moving are a complete waste of time. They are not strong enough and so I'm using laces at the moment which secure the wheel perfectly.

I was in a car park the other week and saw some dude struggling with his bike rack for ages, he was having such trouble getting the thing on, that it made me realise that despite the faults with my Saris bones, it really is quite a simple effective device!

If you do buy the bones, make sure your bike is not a full suss . Bikes with internal bits inside their triangle will not fit without the saris bar adaptor
  • I bought an Avenir Vermont:

It's done me very well. I can strap 3 bikes safely on the rails and they have their clamp arms. Fits great on my 406. As I can move the arms to any position I like I have no probs with 3 full sussers on there.
