Is there an off-road way to get from Beddgelert to Porthmadog, does anyone know? And if there isn't, what's the road (A498) like?
Also has anyone done Dolgellau to Machynlleth? This is part of National Cycle route 8, I know that most of it is on road and there is an off road section from just east of Dolgellau to just north of Aberllefenni.
Finally, has anyone cycled along the beach north of Barmouth as it shows as a cycle route "for beach cycling enthusiasts" whatever that means! I've never ridden on a beach before, presumaby it is only possible when the tide is out, although I'm not sure if the map shows the water line when the tide is in or out so maybe not..? Is it worth doing?
Thanks in advance!

I rode the A498 last Saturday, and to be honest it was quiet. It was an incident free ride as there were only a handful of cars that passed.
To my knowledge there isn't an off road route as to the east of the road its all at sea level. therefore its quite boggy and to the west its a bit steep with no option for an off road route0 -
I've road along the beach at Barmouth but to be honest as nice as it is I just wouldn't bother.
The reason being is no matter how carefully you ride you will get everything covered in sand and salt .
The following day my chain was a rusted mess, my gears wouldn't work correctly and my hubs required a full service.
Trust me dont do it!0 -
