Dont know about you, but Im pretty sick of seeing 'dudes' throw thier overpriced machines over cliffs and through the trees, 15 feet off the ground while Insane Limpknot squeal thier way through some abominable mtv friendly cack.

its awe inspiring stuff, no doubt, but its not every realistic and it doesnt make me want to do that kind of thjing at all. partly because my mummy doesnt pay for everything for me and I need to work, but mainly because its stupid.

    I agree 100%
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

For once I agree with Jesus. I enjoy The Collective films cos there is a bit more to them, but some are just a montage of jump after jump, with awful American metal on top - boring as hell.

  • i prefer podcasts because they have a more chilled out and relaxed theme to them. the riding is still good but they aren't just

  • Where do I sign my name? I'm with you guys.

I've no problem with said videos, they serve an audience with exactly what they want and the riding in them is great.

I'd just like an alternative, something with a different pace and perspective, the Monday video being a good example.

I like the podcasts too, especially as I'm a newb, they're a great learning aid. The Dirty Little Secrets series was very slick.
Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.

Good god, somebody get out of bed the wrong side this morning??? :D

If it's too loud and too fast, you're too old!

I'll make a video of myself riding along a canal towpath with a nice Roger Whittaker/Val Doonican sound track if you like...

    please do.

I don't see the problem people have with ride videos. Admittedly, I don't watch every feature (dirt jumps and trials bore me to death) but the rest of the vid's I find interesting.

As one of the guys interviewed on earthed 4/5 at Fort William said "its great to watch the bikes in their perfect element, watching them do what they were made to do".

People that have nice expensive bikes and "roll" down trails piss me off... use your bike how its supposed to be used or get the fark out of my way.

If you can't stand the videos of people going to the full capabilities of bikes, I don't see how someone could realise the potential of the bike themselves.

    just turn the music of?

Edit: I do think that the "bender style" drops etc are pretty pointless tho.
  • i agree with ben.

i love watchin the bikes getting the best rung out of them but the jumpin vids do get boring for me, depends if your into big jumps i suppose.

on the other hand i dont really want to see somebody rolling along the trails, even more boring than jumping.

it is a video and is suppose to be entertainment.

i particularly love watchin helmet cams of whistler. i think wild cat on pinkbike does a wicked one, very inspiring. check it out its well worth it. would linky but couldnt work it out

I agree, podcasts are the way foward :D

the best ones are the animal commencal and the yeti cycles podcast
  • I usually turn the off when I hear words like 'rad' or ''gnarly'.

For true MTB awfulness just watch Drop In TV on Extreme. Or better still...don't.

All I hear in this thread are a bunch of people who don't like freeride, moaning about freeride. Great stuff  If you don't like it don't watch it, I'm sure there is some lycra 1.8 tyre riding 14lbs xc videos about to bore the hell out of you's. I guarantee if you had ridden the trails on drop in you'd be a bit more inclined to watch it.

wrong. I love riding and i like to watch riding videos, i just dont want to see the same people do the same thing in a different place.

ok, you rode the bike along a narrow wooden bridge 12 feet off the ground in whistler, well done. dont show me a video of you doing the same thing someplace else.

there are only so many hucks and drops i can watch before I get bored. maybe a video of these things all linked up on a days ride would hold my interest, but 20 second blasts of gnarly dudes doing gnarly dude stuff just bores the f*ck out of me.

i just dont want to see the same people do the same thing in a different place.

How about someone getting off their bike and jumping off the wooden bridge with the bike strapped to their back? thats different...

Its going to be hard for people to do different things as there's not much else you can do...
thats why much of it is going bigger and better than the last guy.

you seen roam? the 1st 2 scenes of it are amazing...kinda what you described you wanted to see (have to admit tho, the rest of the film is utter shite).

    just for you..
    One
    Two
    Maybe Three

Lets be honest, no-one wants to watch someone trundling around on an xc course..

edit: I linked the first one to the wrong clip..its sorted now.
  • where did you get the idea that I want to watch a bunch of xc riders from?

I like the 2nd one of those best. i would rather watch somebody ride a whole trail than watch mtv sized bites of them dropping off a cliff or dirt jumping.
  • aye the second one is my fav, watch it all the time. Don't get may sequences like that in MTB films...and i've got a few
  • i dont like these sh!ty home made vids of people going over the same cr@ply made jump trying to do small x-ups but i do like the pro vids like NWD 9 which has a bit better camera works and better jumps

If your in or around Edinburgh on 9th March, Roam & Seasons, double bill showing at the Filmhouse on Lothian Road. Not seen Roam but Seasons on DVD was superb, bet they look fantastic on big screen with decent sound.
