Thanks for help when I bonked!

Yesterday while near the end of a 55 ish mile ride I bonked. This was mainly due to inexperiance. I had no spare cash to go to a shop, and had run out of food.

I'd like to thank the rider who while passing checked if I was OK, then returned to throw me a bannana. He didn't stop but the gesture was fantastic and that extra carbohydrate allowed me to make it the seven miles back home. Thank you so much!

If you cycle or know cyclists then please pass on the thanks of a rather tired looking cyclist sat on Great Smeaton's village hall wall.

I will remember the gesture and I hope that I can repay it to a fellow cyclist if it is needed.

    Good story.
When I am out on the road I always carry a couple of gel tubes that are or should be surplus to requirements.
I hope I would remember them if I saw someone in need.

  • Reminds me of the time when I was lying at the side of the road with 0% blood sugar. Was out on my brand new Carbon job. Fellow cyclist comes up askes if I'm o.k. and must have judged I was anybody's. He propped his Unknown branded aluminium bike against the fence I was laying on and buggered of with my new bike. He dipped my jersey pockets too the b@*tard.

Terrible story. Where were you? Sorry to read about it.

Being smart after your event I can say that there is an "Immobilise" log to register bikes that allows matching of owner to recovered items - apply to yr local police station. I believe that the police support an electronic tag system that allows tracing of stolen bikes. Now I must do something about the 4 bikes in our family.
