Possible middle ring problem

Can you help please?
I have a '07 Rockhopper with:
CRANKSET Shimano FCM-442-8, Octalink Spline, 9-speed, replaceable rings w/ alloy outer
CHAINRINGS 44A/32S/22S
I recently changed the chain for a SRAM 991, since then, every now and again when putting the power down there is a loud 'Crack' noise and the chain skips about 1/4 of a turn, almost throwing me off.
I have searched the forum and checked the chain ring bolts are tight, the cassettte, length of chain and for stiff links and all seem ok.
I checked the middle ring as it the one I mostly use and the teeth are all different shapes, some are flat topped, some are pointed ec.. And I thought it was worn but after looking at some piccies on CRC im not convinced that they not meant to be like that??
My question is does this sound like the problem? If so can you recommend a replacement middle ring.
Or is there something else I nedd to check?
Thanks
Oddy

The teeth are multi profiles to aid shifting.
However it sounds like they are worn, with the new chain slipping over them.
You need a new middle chainring, or maybe even all 3.
Deore (none HT2) are good replacements (4 bolt)0 -
Thanks SuperS
Would any 4 bolt 32T fit?
i.e http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/Race_ ... 360029594/
Or should I just stick to:

Is there any benefit iin coming away from Shimano?
Thanks again.

Most of the same size and PCD will fit, but not always - for example the old deore rings on the new HT2 sert up require a bit of filing.
That is really expensive for a chainring too (the race face one), your chainset is not worth that!
That deore you link to will fit perfect, and being steel will last for ages.0 -
The Race Face was just any example didn't want to spend that much really
Deore it is then.

I'd be looking at the cassette too...usually what causes the skipping....in my experience the front rings will cause chainsuck rather than skipping.0
