The easiest way is to make sure that the new chain is the same length as the old one - as long as that one was working ok. If you haven't got the old chain the old big c'wheel, big sprocket method is good - see here for an explanation -http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=26 .0

Wrap the chain around the large chainring and large rear cog, bypassing the mechs. Add a link to where they overlap and split there.0

cheers men, i looked on the park tool website and it said remove 2 links, is this ok supersonic or do you think 1 link is enoughBianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu/Carbon, 2011

The best technique for setting chain length is to thread the chain onto the large/large combination, without running it through the rear derailer. Mesh the two ends on to the large chainwheel so that they could be connected (outer link meets inner link), then make the chain one complete link (one inch) longer than that. In almost all cases, this will give the optimum length.

there is a video as well. From the closet rivet, lengthen the chain by counting over an additional two rivets (two links), which is a distance of one-inch.

no removing at all."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

My method is to use smallest ring / smallest sprocket and have the chain as long as possble without it touching the underside of the jockey wheel cage with the B-tensioner screw half way out.AT MY AGE, I SHOULD KNOW BETTER !!!0

thanks for all your help i used supersonics method and it has worked, the only fly in the ointment is the chain is reluctant to drop onto the no9 ring, will this have anything to do with chain length though i doubt it as it is the same in all 3 front ringsBianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu/Carbon, 2011
