Oh it has to be a pretty sturdy one, not one of these Halfords jobbies or Tesco efforts, The car has incredibly firm suspension so a flimsy one of those flailing and bouncing round on the back will last no time, and nor will my bike...

The only way you`ll stop paint damage is to get a tow ball and tow ball mounted rack, unless you have mounting points on the roof which means roof bars wouldn`t come into contact with your paint.

Unfortunately neither of these options work out particularly cheap.

I had one the same as this on an old Clio. It required an extra four hatch anchors too. It was time-consuming and annoying to get onto the car, although once tightened it was very secure.

I use a Saris Bones it fits securely to pretty much any car I've fastened it to but I'm not sure how well it'd fit your bike though, I know my Cube won't fit well on it so I'm having to look at other options, though not sure a towbar will look good on my girlfriends Kia Picanto
  • Best way to carry bikes in on the roof. I recommend the Mont Blanc Barracuda

Really secure and you are less likely to damage your bike or your car. Only draw back is that you will need roof bars too. I also got by bars from these guys:

OwenB have you looked into a false crossbar? I can get my Pitch on my Saris Bones rack ok but its not the best fit, think I will try a false crossbar.
