This is a nice bike too. And it costs only 1000€.
That will be, how much, ₤800?

People seem to be arguing about the most useful tests when any test is going to be all but pointless. If 50% of your readers are in the price range you have specified and then there are 100 bikes in that range, if they all have equal market share and you long term test 5 bikes you would still only hit 1.25% of your total audience. Then consider your opinions are just that and may not suit everyone and then consider that you may end up with a bike that is either much better or worse than the norm.

I think people need to pick bikes that they would be interested in purely out of entertainment value. Maybe more obscure bikes too as perhaps it will allow them to build a reputation if at the end of the test one is deserved.

Cant wait to see what you guys pick lol! a dream task that turned into a nightmare it would seem!

I'd like to see you test something like an Orange Alpine 160. How does it cope as a "do it all" mountain bike? Can it be used for XC, trail centres, the odd uplift day, bombing around the woods etc? Is this sort of bike a genuine swiss army knife or is it too compromised in too many areas?

I think this would be interesting; I don't want more than one bike and like to have a go at everything. There must be more people out there like me.

To give you an idea of what we're looking for, here's a rundown of our mountain biking team members:

    - Communities editor Matt: a wheels-on-the-ground type rider looking for a mid-travel trail centre rig.

    - Oli our database guy: wants something he can rag around the BMX track on at lunchtime and shred brutal downhills on at weekends.

    - Operations editor James (me): after a 100mm-or-so bike that's light enough for cross-country but handles well and can still take a bit of abuse.

    For Matt
    - Lapierre Zesty 514 http://mos.bikeradar.com/images/bikes-a ... 400-75.jpg
    For Oli - 24 Seven Deviant Twin http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/images ... 20twin.jpg
    For James- Cannondale Rize http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/images ... 4White.jpg

Yup, I certainly am. The next bike I buy, will be a fairly hardcore full-sus (probably) with around 6-7", bashguard, and single crown forks.

Something that you could (just about) ride all day, up hills, round the woods, bit of downhill rough and tumble, then ride back home too.
