I've got the 705 and enabled the auto pause. The other week I managed to get the back light to come on with the auto pause which was handy to see heart rate etc when waiting at traffic lights. I can't get it to do this now and the owners manual is useless.

Any of you chaps/chapesses know how to do this?

I haven't sussed out how to email/download routes etc yet either but that can wait for another day!

One last comment, the basic maping that comes with it is completely crap  If your thinking of buying one of these devices you need to factor in the cost of the upgraded maping

  • We got one for my Mrs to use.
I think, once the unit it turned on, if you lightly press the on off button, then use the joystick to toggle to required brightness it should stay on

Thanks for the reply. I can get it to come on by pressing the buttons but I want to get it come on automatically with the auto pause kicks in

I think on the 305, you need to turn message alerts on. The light turns on with each alert. I doubt the 705 will be too different.

Once the unit is on, press the On/Off button twice - this will set the backlight to 50% brightness. Each time the unit beeps (autostart, coursepoint etc) the backlight should come on for 30 seconds.
