Does anyone have any tips regarding the installation of a SRAM X7 front mech. I've followed the insructions supplied, but am having difficulty fine tuning so it shifts up and down the chain rings without rubbing on the cage.

i have Sram x7 and fitted it with no problems it is easy to set up and fine tune, it depends on which front mech as there is more than one a top duel swinging mech http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=13262 or the conventional mech http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=13263
I have the top duel swinging mech and found easy to set up, i put the shifter into 1st so have full cable out, then put the chain in smallest ring (my case second one as i run a double with bash) oh take chain off too as then align the front mech so that it is perfectly aligned with the chainset rings (smallest) use common sence ( which i dont have :D ) on how high the mech is to be fitted so that you know it is going to clear the other chain rings, so fit the cable tighten it up and then shift the maech using shifters to see if can go through the chain rings dont worry if doesnt thats what the fine tuning is also when aligning the mech to the smallest ring turn the little screws (the L screw) so that it stops the mech going to far over past the small chain rins and stops chain coming off also do that with second screw (the H screw) as that does same but on the largest chainring.
just take your time its not that difficult to tune front mech just main thing is it not too high or too low and it moves and shifts the chain through the chain rings hope helps, im not always good explaining.

by sounds of it its too low or too high i forgot to mention the plates where it pushes the chain back and fourth should be just of the bottom of the plates the where shifts the chain on the mech and not touching sides it the part of the shifting plates of the bend near bottom part if you look at apic can see its shape and its usally in bottom half of the plates you need to align too.
