And when i wrote a curt email to the afore mentioned periodical, they replied back with my title as Ms.

  • Just got another call.

    4 now.

And as for trying to keep their jobs, we all are. But you dont need to harrass people. One call is fine, 3 is annoying
4 ...well i hope i used enough words that a Sun reader can understand to make my point!

  • Hmmmmm, some-how i think either a computer error or lies live within your statement, i work in sales(hard sales) i find it a little hard to believe that future publishing have a huge call centres cold calling to re-subscribe readers, i stand to be corrected though, any-one else recently cancelled? ( no offence meant, even though some will probably be taken but if it is true then  )

I got a phone call from 0207 925 3600 today (don't answer unrecognised numbers), when I googled the number it seems to be people selling magazine subscriptions of all kinds (see this) - is that the number that called you howie?
  • Was guna edit, but now just offer apologies, forgot about outsourcing (so to speak) ask them where they got your details Howie and tell them you want to be removed from their data-base :)

Anyhoo hometime soon whoop whoop, catchya all tomorrow :D

I think I would get a bit annoyed if I got repeated calls from anybody , on top of all the junk calls I already get

I had two cold calls ,not from cycling weekly but one from Sea Angler saying they had special offer on at the moment. Then the next day a special offer for national newspapers. They must be desperate to drum up buisness.

dont let em break you Howie

maybe they didn't mean to do the first 3 calls but now they're just seeing how many until you give up and get their subs
  • Alfablue, yep that was the number.

But as i often get calls from clients all over the UK, i always answer the phone, its my job. It is IPC Media but i dont know who they sub contracted the calls to.
The funny thing is, they were quoting it was £2.50 for the rag, and it isnt. Its £2.60, minor point i know but hey, get the bloody script right!

  • I think they have something wrong with their customer database. For some reason I still subscribe to both Cycling Weekly and Cycle Sport (both IPC). They phone me regularly and ask me if i want to subscribe to either of the mags i already do. This annoys me.

I have been a reader of the comic for years, and I keep saying that it's change in direction to have become sportive weekly will see me cancel. But I can't break the habit.

I have registered on this and the number of sales calls has dropped dramatically - I do still get the odd call, to which when I tell them they shouldn't be calling me, they claim they are not selling me anything, then proceed to spin their sales pitch!!!
Already signed up for the following 2010 rides:

    Etape Caledonia (May 16th)
    AMR's Trossachs Ton (June 20th)
    AMR's Cross-Border Sportive (Sept 19th)

  • There is a problem with the TPS service it will only stop sales calls from people with whom you do not already have a relationship. If for instance you have a Cycling Weekly subscription and when you took it out didn't tick the 'please don't call me' and/or 'don't pass my details onto other partners' boxes then you've given consent for them to contact you, as they operate on an opt out rather than opt in to sales calls system.

You can whoever stop the calls by either writing to IPC Media and informing them that you wish to have your details removed from their marketing database. You could call the number back and you'll get a recorded message(I've just done it) telling you how to have your details removed from their database, which they are obliged to do within 24 hours of you telling them.

  • A friend of mine (honestly) used to work in telesales.

His advice was to politely ask the person who phoned you to take you off their list and they would do it no problem. For people who just shouted abuse they'd keep calling them back.

    He doesn't do it anymore.

I had a call yesterday from C+ trying to interest me in the new triathlon mag, 3 issues for a pound. Sounded like a 15 year old in a very busy call centre. I politely declined since the only time i'd be running is if I spotted somebody nicking my bike. And I still haven't had my free jacket and hat for taking out the C+ subscription (although they have written to apologise for the dalay)
  • Yeah , just got a call about the Triathalon mag , I had to explain I had no interest at all in swimming and it definitely wouldn't be something I would do before riding a bike

are sportives not compatible with 'cycling' then..?
  • The other problem with outsourcing and TPS is that the company outsources the cold calling to an Indian call centre which, as they are not within the UK, ignor the TPS registration and call you anyway. I've lost count of the number of calls I've received for debt management companies, in an accent that I can bearly understand.
