edited February 2009 in Commuting chat
Have just discovered a Greggs is just short of my new workplace.

So after a 40 min commute in the cold I have to go past steak slices, sausage rolls, doughnuts with pink icing, bacon sarnies, just made scotch pies*, those bacon and cheese pastry things.

And it's 99p for 2 sausage rolls today. Mmm! 8) 8) 8) 8)

Oh and they have bran scones, I suppose.

*they are the best then

    That sounds, um, tasty?

I'm going to do an extra loop tomorrow so I can justify a scotch pie at 8.55am. 8)

When Liverpool One (shopping centre) first opened last summer, right alongside my work, one of the first places I discovered was the new Greggs. A few weeks ago, a new cake shop opened even closer. It's brilliant :D

It's the round kind, they have a stiff pastry circumfrence, and the inside is that curious mix of grey meat product mixed with, um, stuff? Possibly sawdust, or ground up bones perhaps. But SO tasty. If you can recognise the filling, it aint a scotch pie!

Go in before eleven and get the bacon cheese pastry thing. I don't know what it's called but it's bloody great. Instant hangover cure!

    No - not from Greggs.

Greggs stuff is cheap & nasty. You want to go to a proper bakers.

Edit: Having a nostalgia moment for the delicacy known as a pie roll - scotch pie with tom sauce in a morning roll. Mmmmmmmmmmmm. The English can't make pies properly. Or rolls.
  • Their lemon muffin are awesome....well worth the 75p

Now while this place is all about cycling, a detour to Forres or Buckhaven or even lowly Boghall (for a measly 2nd runner-up) might make a bit late for work! (corstorphine, edinburgh)

On the other hand, this sounds niiiiiice. Like a version of the old Pea Pie Floater.

The best pies are from the Nevis Bakery in Fort William. Although the current Scotch Pie Champions are in Bathgate.

The City Bakeries did better pies than Greggs, IMO. Take a bite, pour out the grease, and consume*. Delicious!

There used to be a snack shoppe on High St. that did curried scotch pies and bridies. Yummmm!!!

    *The pie, not the grease.

Edit to add: Scotch pie on Wikipedia.

To be fair, their Healthy Sandwiches seem to be pretty much that - grilled meat and salad etc.

And it IS nice that people are telling me places 100+ miles away to get a pie on the way to work but hey! when I'm an SCR'r I'll make that detour 8)

Hey spen. haven't seen you post for a wee while.

it was the oven baked bit and the quantity of meat that was surprising, not the actual meat product concerned. How many manky purveyors of bacon rolls do you know of that bake the meat????

Also...its greggs.....what do you expect to find in anything from greggs?
