Do you think it is too cold to wear short yet?

Shorts and 1 top layer all this week for the commute. Temps have been around 5-6 degrees which is fine. If it's freezing I wear full length bib tights and 2 layers on the top though.

Has anyone ever considered that even footballers manage to run around with naked knees during the winter? Granted, none of em are fast enough to have to worry about wind chill, but given what the the health of their knees is worth (many times more than anyones bikes), you'd have thought if there was a benefit to wrapping 'em up they'd be right on it.

I run through the winter in shorts - no problem - as you say - its the windchill - I'm riding 2 or 3 times faster than running.

While standing around outside on a cold night a few weeks ago I was surprised to see the number of people in shorts , cyclist and pedestrians !
Still haven't done it myself yet
