I'm currently working in Solihull, but live 35 miles north. I want to part commute to work, so am looking for somewhere to leave the car - probably around 10 miles north of Solihull to start off with.

Any ideas? Doesn't help that I don't know the area at all.

How long are you working in solihull for?

I live in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. Unfortunately the train really isn't an option. I'd have to get to Burton (10 miles) or Loughborough (12 miles) both of which seem to have to have changes, plus the tickets seem to be pretty expensive, when I last checked.

And this is a permanent move, though I do get to work from home.

Hmm from ashby I'd drive to some where like blake street station, park there and ride. Don't know how far that is but it's free parking on most of that line.

I just checked from blake st it's 15 miles. Too far?

Cycle TO Burton or Lougborough station and get the train from there!

Problem is Loughborough is a no go - it's over 2 hours on the train. I might as well cycle the whole way. And from Burton it's over an hour an £12 return, which is twice what I pay to get all the way to Solihull and back.

Fort Shopping Centre is a possibility although that will mean goin along the M6 which I'd rather avoid.

Is there anything round Water Orton/Coleshill?

  • Side issue I know, but what is a car and why do they need parking?

A car is a noisy smelly expensive item that you have to own in order to transport yourself and bike within commuting distance - it has to be parked in order to unload your bike 8)
