With my new wheels, what should do before/after a first ride when hopefully they'll bed in properly?
I'm assuming there will be some natural adjustment by the wheels them selves.. is there anything I should check?

Shouldn't be too much settlement if the wheel is properly built. May be a bit of spoke 'tinging' for the first few hundred yards. Just check for for trueness after a few dozen miles.AT MY AGE, I SHOULD KNOW BETTER !!!0

Kewl, thats what I was hoping to hear
How would i know if anything is incorrect? just by looking for trueness?
I assume spokes aren't supposed to be uber tight and rigid, but then again not loose and flexy?0 -
Properly built and stress relieved wheels wont ping. They should be even and true with all the stress evenly distributed. Ideally you want the spokes fairly highly tensioned.
If they're pinging a lot then check that they are true and the tension is even still, they'll last a lot longer.0 -
Whenever i get a new bike or new set wheels i always give them about 50 miles b4 i get to really off road with them to allow for bedding in and settling down.
Its prob overkill but i always prefer to hedge my bets than to risk trashing something new and expensive.0 -
Well I haven't actually ridden on the wheels yet (only put a bit of pressure on the front one)
Had a quick check and had a few pings.
Spokes feel quite rigid, but I dunno how rigid rigid is
Still very true tho.0 -
