Hi All

After finally taking the plunge and purchasing my first road bike (felt f55 - which i abs love :D ) i am starting to get some kit together, got a joe blow pump which is excellent.

So i am now looking to get a small/light saddle bag. It needs to hold multi-tool and repair kit.

Just trying to build up some quality gear. Buy cheap buy twice is my opinion.

Anyone recommend one ?? and perhaps a multitool to go with it ???

Cheers

I have one, lovely bag, innovative fitting system. It IS small, takes a tube, tyre lever, small Lezyne multi-tool (with chain tool), patches, chain link - that's about it. Best bit - I wanted a second bracket for my other bike, couldn't find one anywhere, emailed Scicon in Italy and they posted me one, no charge for the item or postage - what a brilliant company!

If you need bigger there is a 430 size.
  • I've got one of these, great size and comes with the tool.

  • I have the Scicon Elan 210. £12 on Wiggle. Just big enough for a tube (even fits a MTB 26") and a lever. You could put a spare link in, and maybe if you had a road tube, a small munti tool as well.

Really like the look of the bag and does the job I require of it. I usually just put my multi-tool in my jersey pocket along with any energy bars etc. Can't feel the tool when on the move. Ooo Er missus!!

If you're looking for a small bag, have you considered just putting all your gear in a spare water bottle on the second cage?
  • If you want to buy once, buy an ortleib bag. Really really well made and fairly watertight.

As for tools, Try to find one that you can remove bits from so you're only taking what you need, the ones which are like a socket set are quite good for small on the road repairs, topeak make a nice set.
  • ordered the Scicon Phantom 230 Saddle Bag, just need a tool now. Loads of Toppeak ones about, so just worried about size now.

Looking at them though the only bit you would use is 1/2 allen keys and perhaps chain tool ?

Would it not be better check 2 a keys in with chain tool instead of spending £20 for basically a chain tool which i may not even use ? (got loads of single a keys allready)

    Cheers

I use this Lezyne 12 piece multitool which fits in the Phantom - it was important to me to have a chain tool. There are smaller ones if you don't want that. They also do this version in stainless steel (£6 more) or a 9 piece with chain tool in carbon, obviously for more dosh. On my tourer I take a Topeak Alien II as it has everything but on my road bike the Lezyne has the essentials I need for those rides. Nice tool!
  • If you can get away with it, separate allen keys and chain tool are normally much nicer to use by the road.

If you want a small bag then I can recommend the Scicon Phantom 230 which holds a few bits

or if you want something a little bigger, complete with tools then the Edinburgh Revolution Adventure is great value:

  • Ordered the scicon 230, got a larger bag on my hybrid so want this to be small/light.

Also put an offer in on Fleabay for the cr12 leinz tool, (£14.50).

    Cheers guys, getting there slowly.

Off to start another thread as i never noticed how LOOSE my spokes where on my hybrid until i had my mavics, i pulled one and it came out of its nipple !!
