Replaced my Chain

Hi, I have just replaced my chain but now it appears to be slipping. I made sure the new chain was the same size as the old one but when I try accelerating fast or pedalling hard it feels like the chain is slipping.
I am also now having problem changing up on to the larger chain rings (when I change up to the second one I need to over push the shifter to get it up and I cant get it onto the largest chain ring at all) I thought this might be due to the chain being to long so the front mech cant push it across because there is not enough tension.
Is this due to the chain being to long / too short or just that the casette and jockey wheels are worn?
Any advice on this would be much apreciated

the cassette will be more worn than the chain so thats why its slipping ( i think )
also to adjust your front mech, tighten the cable tension and follow this

I would reccoment a chain wear checker for the future, it will tell you when the chain is worn so that you can replace it befpre the streach becomes too much as it appears to have here.
Sounds to me like the cassette has worn and will also need replacing. If there is jumping on the chainrings you will need to replace those as well but you might be OK, this all depends on how overworn the old chain was.
May also be an idea to put new jockey wheels in as they are cheap and winter has probably killed the bearings in there anyway.
For the front mech problem it is probably a simple adjustment, shoud take you no more then a few minutes. http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=75 this guide is very good and goes into many parts (some you wont need for this but they are good to know)

Thanks for the replys. I think the chain was excessively worn but I bought the bike second hand so that is why it is so worn.
I will probably change the cassette because it sounds like that is the problem and will do they jockey wheels while im at it.
Is it possible the adjustment on the front mech that is the problem with the shifting? as it was fine until I change the chain

On the front mech it may be that a new stiffer chain isnt going to shift like the old one which would be stretched between the links and looser at the pins laterally "throwing out" any set up on the front mech and its adjustment.
Check your chainrings for wear also this may affect your front shifting. see Park web.
If you have cut the chain to the same number of links as the old then I would of thought its unlikely to be chain length. You can check correct chain length on the Park site.
Sometimes putting on a new part shows up wear/difficulties on older kit; had the same problem myself with slipping on a new chain and old worn cassette. The cassette can be checked look for hooked teeth or the tops of the teeth can flatten in the gears used most.0
