    Greg, when you're on rollers only the wheels are spinning - you and the bike (and your combined weight) have no forward momentum. If you did manage to ride off all that would happen is the wheels would come to an immediate halt and you'd be pretty embarrassed.

    Yes, I suppose that is right, isn't it. Obviously I've been watching cartoons too much.

    Next question: Resistance. Can you adjust it? Once set, it is set for the duration of the ride (so you can't change it on the fly)? How close is it in feel to the "standard" resistance offered by a road?
    Swim. Bike. Run. Yeah. That's what I used to do.

    Most rollers don't have resistance units. The more expensive ones do.
    I up the resistance by letting a few psi out of the tyres ;)
    Most of the time, though, I use them for high (120+) cadence drills so resistance not so important
