Can't demo a Pitch Pro- try an Enduro instead?

Hi all,
After about a year out of cycling I've decided that the best way to get back into the sport I once loved is to splash out on a new bike. Really like the look of the Pitch Pro- fine price, good reviews, good looks, but obviously they're rarer than hen's teeth. The odds of finding one to buy are slim, and the odds of getting a shop to let me borrow one to take to Glentress for the day are non-existent.
Obviously I still want to demo something similar, just so I know I'm not making a big mistake- don't want to spend over a grand to find out that I can't move the seatpost up or down far enough or something (actually, that is a particular concern: I'm always shifting my seatpost about from longest to shortest...)
Anyway, my idea was to just try and demo an Enduro Comp instead. I'll just pretend that the experience is slightly less good than it actually is, and in my head I'll have test-ridden the Pitch Pro. Does this sound like a good plan or the ravings of an idiot?

That's what I had to do before buying my Pitch - took an Enduro out for the day, then went back and rode the Pitch around the car park.
The Pitch is actually better than the Enduro, in my admittedly biased opinion.0 -
Have you actually been able to find a PP anywhere? I tried everywhere~they are as rare as the proverbial "rocking horse poo". Apparently there will be some in september, not really sure where i heard that though!Orange G30

Man I can't believe there's such a rush for them now. They've been on the market for over a year.
I did what you're thinking of doing. I actually ended up hiring an Enduro Expert, loved it, realised I couldn't afford it so looked for cheaper alternatives. There was the Pitch, hiding behind all the hype for the Commy Meta 5. So I just went for it and I'm so glad I did. It's an awesome bike.If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!0 -
A few magazines give it high ratings and the bike sells like hot cakes.
Just goes to show the power they have.Specialized Enduro SL Pro Carbon

The reason there isnt any PP avaliable at the moment is due to slow sales in 2008 they didnt produce any for 09 for the UK market so there wont be any Pros until the 2010 model is made..
There are a few still avaliable but depends on size as it seems large is the most popular and hardest to get hold of.I̶m̶ ̶t̶i̶r̶e̶d̶

Why were the sales slow in 08 ....... because there were no magazines reviews giving it high marks.
Owners have been saying since day one that the Pitch is a superb value bike.
Incidentally and not related to the Pitch reviews but I wonder where a magazine would stand if a manufacturer were to offer an incentive for a mag to give a bike a good review - i.e. A full/double page advert for several months.Specialized Enduro SL Pro Carbon

the man has got a very valid point.. its amazing how a little advertising and good reviews can have such an affect..

Cynics might suggest that they didn't want the magazines to give the Pitch too good reviews when they had just brought out their shiny new Enduro SL at a much higher price.0 -

Yeah, that's my plan B- I've seen Large ones (I'm 6' 1") about somewhere. Of course, it's £300 more expensive, but that just makes it the same price (I assume) as the 2010 Pitch Pro will be. And it might be a better bike...
Also looking at the Commencal Meta 5.5 (either low-spec/ ex-demo/ 2008). I didn't used to be such a slave to fashion, honestly, but I think I'm getting old or something. Although, in my defence, I've been out of the loop cycling-wise for over a year and the Pitch just jumped out at me when I was browsing.
Plus I worked out recently that I've spent £1000 building my current bike- and it's still got V-brakes! Think I just need to trust the market to make my bike-related decisions for me, for a while at least.
I've seen websites that seem to claim to have the Large PP in stock, but haven't rung up to confirm yet. Still need to test ride something though...0 -
Actually, the Enduro Expert is just plain gratuitous. I'm never going to use all that bike!
But still, I wouldn't be the only one out on the trail with more money than sense would I?0 -

The Enduro SL came first, 2007 vs 2008 for the Pitch
Also, generally speaking if people have a budget then they stick to it regardless of ratings.Specialized Enduro SL Pro Carbon
