Chain Reaction Cycles have these:

Decathlon are also mentioned frequently at the budget end of the market.
Best advice would be to determine what size you need and spend a couple of hours Googling. There will still be some of last years or the year befores models about at good prices if they have your size.
Don't be tempted into buying one of those £150 new "Road Racer" type bikes you see on Ebay. You get exactly what you pay for. I guess the fact that you have posted the question on this forum suggests that you are enthusiastic? In which case you would quickly become disappointed and want to replace it very quickly - even if you are not forced to because bits fall off it   !!
Alternatively, keep your eye out on Ebay for second hand - but again be sure of sizing. There are bargains to be had, but beware of "suspicious" listings. They could be nicked!! If you ask the right type of question to the seller you will soon know .

299 is absolute maximum cos i got quite a few bikes and parents are fed up with buyin stuff so i'll have to chip in. i got a mtb,bmx and my dads old road bike.0

How old is your dads roadie, and will it fit you? Might be best to upgrade/repair that instead.0

We have 3 viking bikes including a tandem that is excellent, they make 2 or 3 road bikes that are very decent for the money....like this one for example...click link
(or search e-bay for viking road bike)

Or this one with a carbon fork at £299...I have a viking ajjacio with a carbon fork as a winter bike, the frame is very decent, forks are nice, and the components are perfectly decent, so this road bike is probably similarly good for the price...see here :

But what size do you need,a bit off topic but i notice a lot of older road bikes seem humongous, anyone else? I see all sorts of folk riding round with the seat right down, why is this :?: :?winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

dunno wot size it is but i can ride it at the moment comfortably with the seat about 3 inches away from the seat clamp.0

Hmmmm, not much use really, what size is your dad's bike? Don't get a rubbish bike though, i did that and it was only when i got a half decent one (and split up with some bird  ) that i realised the beauty of cycling someone on here can post a fit calculator might help you out a bit............winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

I agree with some of the other people here that you will generally get what you pay for.
Go for the best bike you can afford, or you might find a few problems start to show up on longer rides..0 -
