Finished a ride yesterday with weak hands (esp the thumbs) and its been an issue since my new bike. Thought it was the shifters, but never had this problem before, so I'm now thinking its the grips (odi crosstrainers). I have big hands and i'm thinking they might be too small. I feel like i'm gripping them quite hard as a result.

Reading up here it could be loads of things like gloves, grips, shifter angle, just gripping too hard.
But I'm now looking at these for my big hands:

Specialized BG Comfort Locking Grips

Ergon Enduro E1 Grips

Any feedback much appreciated.

I have quite big hands, you could call them chubby I guess and found that the stock grips on the bike were too small and hard, so I bought the Specialized BG comfort grips (also due to having rigid fork and looking for better wrist support) and had issues with them which has lead to my using the simple Specialized lock-on grips.

The issues were mainly down to the tiny allen bolt that the lock-on uses, due to it being small you cant tighten them enough to stop them twisting on the bars and overtightening them led me to strip the bolt. While these are also on the normal Specialized lock-on grips I have presently, the 'ergo' bit of the grip acted as more of a lever to twist them around easier than actually supporting for my palms. I also found that unles I got the angle perfect on them I got quite bad pains as the grips force yur hand to a certain angle, this of course was difficult with them twisting all the time.

I haven't tried the Ergon grips as they were a good £20 more in my LBS so these may be fine.

I am much more comfortable with chunky grips without the 'ergo' bit sticking out as I can hold the grips firmer with more finger-wrap and still have more to hold onto with better cushioning. Beleive it or not going to chunkier grips actually made the front end of the bike feel lighter, is hard to explain... also they cost only £8 which is a bonus!
  • I have the ends of one set of old grips on with another full set. My grips are 142mm between the shifters and the extensions.
AT MY AGE, I SHOULD KNOW BETTER !!!
  • I have long fingers and find I have to grip narrow grips too hard to be comfortable.

ODI Rogues seem to do the job for me though!
  • Rogues, or the oury grips are hooooooooooooooooooooooge, but i'm not sure they do loc-ons

They do! Ourys every time for big hands, soft squishy massive grips! I've got 3 sets of the non-lockon grips now. I prefer riding without gloves where possible to keep me nice and cool, these things are awesome.

As seen on the Meta and Zaskar below, not yet on the Stumpy, it's only a matter of time though! It's got fairly big Yeti grips on there at the moment, they're a bit brutal compared to the ourys though.
