Sorry to post yet another of these theads but I have had a look through the previous threads and can't find anything that helps.

I have a rockhopper which I have upgraded over the last few years to XTR and a Rock shock SID fork. I have decided to take the plunge and change the frame for a full sus XC frame. I have about £1k to spend and I am looking at the Scott Genius 40 mainly because of the weight.

Can anybody offer any opions / alternatives that I could consider.

Your thoughts are very much appreciated.

Thanks.

  • northwind, i dont think you read that properly...

i would suggest a giant trance x frame, i am very happy with mine. failing that perhaps an anthem x frame, their both solid builds and are nice and light.

seriously though, try a demo full susser to see if you like it, you could get a really nice carbon hardtail frame for that money, it would be faster and more comfortable than your current frame, and just a little less comfortable than the full bouncer.
  • Northwind, that's a touch random.

OP, if you want an xc bike that you're going to put sids and xtr on then I'd look at the spark rather than the genius, which is too trail orientated for your riding and built around 130mm forks IIRC.

Other frames worth a look would be the giant anthem, and if you can strech another £200 (which may or may not be a big ask) then the santa cruz superlight should be right up your list.

Do you have a good pair of sunglasses? There's always the glow in the dark Commencal Super 4 :) Fairly light frame built for long endurance riding. Quite a bit heavier than an Anthem or Scott of any sort though.

Given the forks you've already got the Anthem X would be a perfect match as well (as Cullen mentioned), really good reviews this year as well, bit more of a trail/long distance bike than last years apparently.
  • ^^ good god yes, that is a fanstastic bargin at that price!

But for the extra £200 you can get this badboy which is arguably better...
  • Does anyone know the 08 anthem advanced frame and shock weight?

I bet it is more than 1550g!!!!!!

They have the info wrong for that Scott. The bare frame weighs 3.42lbs. From Scott:

    Frame: 3.42 lbs (1550 gr)
    Integrated seatpost w/ Ritchey WCS
    clamp: .51 lb (230 gr)
Nude TC shock: .53 lb (240 gr)

    Yeah Man!!! :D

I have the Scott Spark.... it's awesome! If it's xc and general trail work you're doing it's a perfect bike. It's light and tough...very sexy!
plus, it will match what you've already got and you'll have a 22- 23lb rocket.

you also have the shock with lockout for those hardtail moments

can you tell i like the Scott?!
pain is temporary..... but it does hurt!

Balls, sorry, posted in the wrong thread. I wondered where that post went

  • 3.42lbs is about 1550 grams (1 551.28591g if we're being pedantic, which we are :D )

I always thought the 1550g included shock. It seems to have gone up a bit for '09 but I think it is slightly longer travel.

Lol, I remember the frame and shock being quoted by Scott as 3.96lbs for a medium, so seems to add up.
  • Thank you all for your advice it is very much appreciated.

I hadn't really considered the travel on my forks and following your advice I am now leaning towards the Scott Spark 10. However, Kudubikes (thanks for the link!) have sold out and I can't find it anywhere else in large for less than £1500.

As an alternative I like the look of the Giant Trance Advanced as the price is great. However, I am a bit bemused as I can't find the weight of the frame anywhere. Giant don't actually list the frame on their webiste. Does anyone know the frame weight?
