Front Mech Guard...?

I've just been wondering, you know how it is usually your Front Mech that gets the worst of any water, mud and flith that your rear wheel can throw at it?
Has anyone manufactured any kind of specific mech guard, to protect the mech?
I'm not talking about a full length mudguard by the way (yuk!), just something that shields the mech. I have a distant memory of some shop owner mentioning that one firm used to make them, and they clipped on to your seattube..?
KK.
PS: You might ask, why bother?! But surely anything that helps to protect a top spec mech (like an XT or XTR) and prolong the life of moving parts, can't be a bad thing..!
Mine got REALLY filty today and now squeaks! Hence the wondering..!

Hmm. Anyone else heard of these..?
I suppose that you could make one from some plastic bits, but it would look kind of nerdy.

There are a few full sus bike out there that come with a did guard to protect the shock but never seen a mech one. Don't think its a real problem though as the act of pedalling tends to clear the words of them mud. Just brush the bike down when your done and a drop of oil to keep it all fresh.0

I made a guard as the mud that collected on my hardtail's front derailler had stopped it from working a couple of times
I used a crudguard shim - a piece of plastic/rubber and secured it in place with a zip tie around the seat tube - job done.
Find a peice of plastic - a bottle or something.
Cut it so it is the right size, allow a square about 2cm across sticking out of the side going up against the tube.
Bend this square over so that it is perpendicular to the guard.
Put a ziptie loosly aroung the seat tube, then slot the square in between the frame and the ziptie then tighten the ziptie.
Aim to have the plastc guard sloping down a bit, so water runs away from the frame.
I'd post a pic but I've no idea to to work camera/computer interactionNow that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
this sounds like a great idea, mine gets filthy too but has'nt stopped working because of it yet. whytepeak it would be great if you could do a diagram or something like that then patent the idea and sell it to crud catcher for ££££0
