I,m a little bit green to Road bikes,But am saving up nicely.

I,ve got my eye on this ; http://www.evanscycles.com/products/sco ... e-ec016350

Would this be suitable for my 1st roadie or are there better bikes for the money

Thanks in advance.

  • nice bike, what sort of thing do you want to do?

it's got a triple and a wide cassette so it will go up all but the steepest hills, though if your london or other fairly flat areas might well be under used.

but looking at the specs looks fine, you will take it for a test ride though? if this is your first road bike, i'd really suggest you do.

Well for less than £100 more you could get something like this

    http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bia ... e-ec000022

which has 105/ultegra bits on it, much better than tiagra/sora. The upgrade from sora shifters to 105 is more than that in itself, nevermind the derailleurs and other bits. What's your budget?

I just looked at at the list of bikes from evans, im sure there are better deals out there on other websites than the scott.

There will always be better bikes for your money, but if if the price is right on the day then it's right. Basically you're not going to go far wrong with this bike, glad to see you've gone for the triple chain-set option especially on your first bike , you don't have to use bottom gear but it's there just in case. One thing to check or consider, do you want to fit mudguards and if so are there the necessary bolt holes and clearance on the frame and fork.
    Good luck.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail
Hills are just a matter of pace
  • Doesn't seem a tremendous bargain imho see here

Seems good spec for the money(groupset is 2 up from sora) also, you might be able to get a specialized allez for that money maybe, they are well regarded here, make sure you know the size to get and you can only really know what is right for ypou yourself plus your lbs might be able to help out with it all if your a bit unsure :)

Also this might be of help if you didn't already spot it

  • After wetting myself over the Scott Speedster and also doing a lot of reveiw reading for MY needs I,ve come across this http://www.noahsark.co.uk/specialized-a ... -2755.html

Can any members that own either one of these bikes help me out,I,m curious to know a little more on the Scott as the Allez remonds me OF Ronseal..............appartently it does exactly what it says on the tin

    Scott fans please help

look for 08 stock (e.g. the Bianchi suggested above) much more for your money. 2008 Allez Sport will cost about £200 less than the 09

Some of the discounts at Evans are crazy at the moment. I might make an unnecessary purchase and get a second roady even though I don't need one.

Best thing to do is test ride some bikes in your price range. You may find you have a like/dislike for the feel of some and go by your preference. Trying to find the best possible bike at the best possible price is an impossible game. Find one that feels good, shop around a bit for the best price on that model, buy it, and enjoy.
