My Orbea has just come back to me after nearly 3 weeks in the LBS, during which time I was commuting on my old steel-framed Saracen MTB. So, Thursday last was the first day back in on the Orbea - I had such a smile on my face! It felt really good to be on skinny tyes and on a bike which accelerated so readily and maintained speed so easily.

I think I'm going to carry on commuting on the MTB about once every couple of weeks just to keep reminding myself how nice a half-decent road bike can be

Yep, I share your joy, BB/LiT. The MTB is seriously hard work, which is good. I have noticed, however, that I tend to ride less defensively on the MTB. I think it's because I usually do the commute on the road bike and, if I don't hammer it on the MTB, it'll take significantly longer to get into and home from work. Even if I hammer it, it takes longer, and if I'm able to get out of work in time to put the kids to bed, the road bike gets me home in time, but the MTB doesn't.

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."
