The trailbuilding session today was called off because of ice on the access roads, but today was warmer and it's supposed to be above freezing tonight so hopefully that'll clear a bit for tomorrow.

Well, that was interesting  Great day but not exactly a great day's riding... We were going to do the reds but gave up on the climb to spooky after a bit too much pushing and carrying... First time I've ever said "Ah brilliant, mud! Some traction at last!" Just came back down the blue return, did pennel's vennel again then back down, and called it a day... Think we had enough wee scares on the ice and some of the guys were knackered from the pushing up the blue. Not me, I was too busy laughing like I was on drugs, sliding about and falling off 20 times a minute to feel tired. Which i think was probably every bit as annoying for everyone else as the snow was now I come to think of it. Just call me the morale officer.

Wish I'd had a camera

  • :D , ill second that , except we were stupid enough to do the whole red route including spooky wood , it was fine up to 2/3 of the way up but after that too much snow/slush to make it enjoyable , although I enjoyed watching my mate and I broad siding and skidding our way around :-)

theres also a diversion just after the spooky wood section , a bit of blue before joining the red again

You're a braver man than me... We did pennel's vennel as a tester and thought "That wasn't much fun, we can do it but it's maybe not that bright" We should've called it quits then but the snow "riding" made it worthwhile.

Now, let's never do it again

  • hmmm, not really what i wanted to hear but to late to pull out now im leaving in 10 minutes, should be fun anyway, although last time i was there in the ice i broke a finger and gave myself a scarred face.

The novalty of snow at gt has really worn off now.

Yesterday was one of the worst for grip that I have seen due to the sheet ice with the layer of water over it.

However some guys were good enough to show me some hidden trails which were interesting in the snow but look like fun when it's dry.

Hopefully we will get a warmer week to get rid of this slippy white stuff!

  • Me and my friend went to glentress on Saturday
We tryed to push our bikes to the top of the red route and about 3/4 of the way there ran into a ranger who told us there was no point going on. So we cycled/pushed our bikes halfway down again and eventually came to the pie run which is in pretty good riding condition. We then did the magic mushroom and the end of the red/black route and had great fun. Just don't try any of the higher trails :)

Just back from glentress. Apart from the uphill before the spooky woods and the first half of the spooky woods downhill, there wasnt much snow left. Got some good filming including shooting off the track a few times due to the ice. Will get it up on pinkbike tomorow

Given that the Osprey car park is closed at 6:30 & Buzzards Nest is closed weekdays, does anyone know where you park to ride at night at the moment?

By the wonders of terrible mobile phone cameras:

"Blue Velvet is many people’s favourite section on the whole route. It’s easy going singletrack with a gentle climb, followed by a mellow descent that curves its way beautifully down through well-spaced trees. Great for practising your cornering technique!"

I don't think the very first car park as you turn off the road ever closes unless the on-going work has closed it. Just been there at the weekends and it's always open then.
