I think it could be oldert than that, as 1999 and 1998 were aluminium.
You got any pics? Might not be a full cromo frame either.0 -

Too small, can hardly see it!0

a pair of wheels/tyres and you are on the hills.
Not bad, looks like STX level kit and a judy XC
have fun."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Do i spend the dosh to bring the old devil back to life or go for a modern bike with the Technology?0

basically do you want discs or not?
if you think you may want discs get something else to start with."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Surely Disks are that much of a factor? Alright i know there modern but they do have there faults.,And i certainly would not buy a bike cause it had discs[Just to narrow-minded for my liking]0 -
Discs are for fat people ;-)0

Supersonic m8,I value your input.............................Do i spend the money and bring-customize this Frame [I,m thinking of a personal project with some sort of a return down the line] or Just spen the cash on a newer Bike????
Any input SS much appreciated0 -
If you want a short travel, fairly comfy XC bike, and fairly light, just bung some new wheels on it. My Zaskar LE is 13 years old - if you like it, it is right!
If you are after something that will take a bit more punishment, longer travel, and a better fork, then buy new. But are looking at a lot of money to hit the weight of what you have, 300 quid bikes tend to be a lot weightier than ones of 10 years ago (disc brakes, more solid forks).0 -

no you miss the point of the comment. If you are going to consider discs at any time you will do better starting with some thing else now.
If you are not considering discs then go with what you have."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thank you,My only other question would be; Would Suntour XCR lock outs fit this dinosaur and if so do you think[honestly] it would be a plus???????????0 -
Depends on the exact model of XCR really. They will be stiffer, but at least a pound heavier - if the hydraulic lockout, better damping too.
Would fit as seems you have a standard 1 and 1/8th threadless steerer.0
