Hi guys, I'm looking at starting getting into biking but as I've got a Raleigh Activator in the garage I'm thinking I'll need a new bike! I'm not after anything special as I'll just be going round the local woods etc but after looking at Halford's Appollo bikes and reading some shocking reviews thought I better look for some advice.

So far I've been looking at the below but I have no idea on makes, specs etc. I don't really want to spend too much over £300.

Specialized Myka Sport 2008 - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... e-ec001416
Scott Contessa 50 2009 - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/sco ... e-ec016277
GT Avalanche 3.0 Disc 2009 - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/gt/ ... e-ec016367
Scott Contessa 55 2009 - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/sco ... e-ec016276

If anyone has any advice on any of the above or any other suitable bikes, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Cheers!

Carrera Kraken '08 women's bike is in the sale @ Halfords, down from £429 to £329, it's got a much better spec than all the bikes you've listed, even @ full price it's very good value

The bikes you've listed are OK, but the Carrera blows them all away on spec alone, although this means nothing if the bike doesn't fit you right, you need to at least sit on bikes, if possible test them before committing to buy one.
