Why in this Island surrounded by salt water and containing many salt mines why can't we even grit the road properly??
I have just curtailed my planned ride to Luton and back.
There was just too much ice about so at Aldenham park i turned back.
The ice started off in the gutter but was quickly spreading across the whole carriageway. At one T Junction it was just pure ice and i could hear it cracking underneath me.
In just 13 miles i had 4 near misses where my rear wheel almost swung round to meet my front
It would have been safer cycling yesterday on Friday 13th

Coucils were caught completely unawares, probably used the Met Office's ever so accurate predictions for this winter, as issued back in September.
Mind you, we were going to get a warm & dry summer too, weren't we?Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.0 -

I'd rather them NOT grit. It messes up my bike if I forget to wash it after each trip and it kills fauna and flora in the environment. Roll on ice-free days.
