Why in this Island surrounded by salt water and containing many salt mines why can't we even grit the road properly??

I have just curtailed my planned ride to Luton and back.

There was just too much ice about so at Aldenham park i turned back.

The ice started off in the gutter but was quickly spreading across the whole carriageway. At one T Junction it was just pure ice and i could hear it cracking underneath me.

In just 13 miles i had 4 near misses where my rear wheel almost swung round to meet my front

It would have been safer cycling yesterday on Friday 13th

  • Coucils were caught completely unawares, probably used the Met Office's ever so accurate predictions for this winter, as issued back in September.
Mind you, we were going to get a warm & dry summer too, weren't we?

You're lucky, you could have ended up in Luton. :)

    LMFAO
  • I'd rather them NOT grit. It messes up my bike if I forget to wash it after each trip and it kills fauna and flora in the environment. Roll on ice-free days.
