Hi Guys,
I'm having trouble getting the right sort of pads. I first bought a set of 661 2x4 and 4x4 pads, but having tried them on it looks more like i'm going out to play cricket. Plus i think they are a little OTT for my kind of riding.
I then got some chicken wing elbow and veggie wrap knee pads. These were a much better proportion, but i think a got the wrong sizes. The medium elbow were far too tight and the large knee were a little big. If i can get the right sizes will they serve me well?
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,
I had the same set up as you for the elbows and found exactly the same sizing problem.
I've had a few falls while using the chicken wings and they've given a good level of protection. As long as you're just doing XC / Trails without going mental they should be fine at stopping you hurting your self too much.
I have the kyle strait knee pads so can't comment on the leg protection.

I've the chicken wing elbows and they are super tight. Think they will slacken off a bit with more use so gonna stick with them [dont always wear tbh, tend to just wear knee pads].
For knees i've got Kyle Straits - tops pads, really comfy [and keep knees warm in this weather!!]0 -
Yup, chicken wings do break in and slacken off with time... The pad starts out pretty inflexible but that'll change a bit in use, and once that happens the whole thing will be looser and more comfortable. Great pads...
Veggie knee I'm not so convinced by, they're a bit minimal... But not any more comfortable or less intrusive than Kyle Straits, while having much less padding and less coverage to boot. Knees take bigger hits than elbows generally, plus they catch tubes and bars in crashes as well as bearing more weight in landings. If you just want a bare minimum then they'd be fine but they don't have many advantages over the straits and they don't perform as well (they're good for wearing under trousers though)Uncompromising extremist0
