My Altura Night Vision gloves now leak water in heavy rain. They are about a year and a half years old.
Can I treat them with a product to fix this, or should I buy a new pair?

  • Is it coming through the big holes in the top of them?

Seriously, you could try washing them in this stuff:

Make sure they are clean first using a neutral detergent (Ecover is good) or use this:

You could try Nikwax Tx Direct re-proofing on them. Its a liquid that comes in either spray-on or wash-in flavours, and is designed for waterproof breathable fabrics. It does work, but to the slight detriment of breathability. I think the spray on would probably be best for gloves.

Its probably also a good idea to wash them in Nikwax Tech-wash first, which gets rid of any traces of detergent from previous washes, which would affect the re-proofing.

You can buy it in most outdoorsy shops like Blacks Camping or Cotswold Outdoor. It'll cost about £10 for both but you'll get enough for several uses. Still cheaper than new gloves :)

You could always use Nikwax Tx.............

Gloves always leak after a while which I why usually try and buy ones that dry quickly and repel some water rather than so called waterprroof ones.

It's unlikely they actually leak, what's more likely is that the outer gets soaked through more easily than when they were new and so they don't breath as well and there's more moisture inside.

This is what the Nikwax treatment should restore.
