Have got an Ultegra Compact Chainset (50/34).

Ultegra Front Mech has a tooth capacity of 15.

Is this going to be a problem or do lots of people run this without any issues?

Think 105 Mech has a 16T capacity....

  • ...the front mech is just a lever which pulls the derailleur orizontally, it's not rocket science... any of them will do the job pretty much in the same way. 99% sure that a campagnolo one would work perfectly well on a shimano chainset and viceversa
I changed a 53x39 to a 50x34 without even lowering the front derailleur and it works fine

The best mech I've found for compacts is the Chorus CT

I've tried a standard Shimano double (Ultegra), the R440 version and a Veloce CT and the CT mechs are much better IME

However, they didn't just bolt on and work straight away with Shimano shifters, as the shifteres didn't move the mech far enough per click. I got round this by re-routing the cable (I drilled the fixing bolt that the cable now goes through the centre of the bolt). This solves the problem and it shifts perfectly.

Ultegra 10 speed front mech has 16t capacity. Swapped from double to ultegra compact ok, just needed to lower the mech slightly.
  • Been using an Ultegra SL front mech with my Ultegra Compact. No probs at all.
