I am going to buy a Scott CR1 this weekend...I am unsure about whether to go for the Pro or the Team. The only diff between the 2 is the groupset. Shim 105 on the Team and Ultegra on the Pro....the diff in price is £400 and at a push I could afford the Pro but would make better sense to buy the Team....

I am currently riding an old bike with Campag Veloce about 10 yrs old...will I really notice the difference between the 105 and the Ultegra....??? Bear in mind my current bike is too small, old etc so Im thinking any new bike will feel great...

Any advise would be great thanks.

I'd get the 105, then put the £400 in my pocket and save it to upgrade bits to Dura ace once they start to wear out.

No way is the difference between 105 and Ultergra £400 worth of difference IMHO.

I would def go with the 105. It works well and you would struggle to really notice the difference to ultegra.

yes it is out of stock but they are always cheap for groupsets - if you still really wanted the ultegra after buying the bike you could buy a new groupset for the cost difference between the bikes. And sell / keep the 105 as you wished.
  • Cheers guys...I thought so... I like the idea of upgrading to Dura Ace...but...will I be seriosuly compromising my ride by having 105 vs Ultegra or would I barely notice...I mean, is Ultegra really that much better....in fact, what are the diffs between them? Is it just smoother gear changing or much more??

£400 difference, with only Ultegra as the difference? Seems silly therefore to get the Ultegra version, as the whole Ultegra groupset can be had for not much more than £400.....you sure there isn't a difference in the wheels?

I'd probably go for the 105 version, and get some nice wheels for the £400...

I think the pro also has Kysrium Elite wheels, compared to the Aksiums on the team.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

i'd say go for the 105 as well you can go back with the £400 you saved on wheels or other kit and the jump between 105 and Duraace is much more noticeable from when I've ridden them especially in the smoothness
  • Oh yeah...SLOWDOWNCP is right...I omitted to mention the wheels diff....!!! But anyway, I can upgrade them too if needed...Im going for the Team...its got a better paint job anyway!
  • 105 is excellent stuff. I'm with the other's who've said pocket the difference and get new kit/wheels and replace the 105 when it starts to wear (which might take a while if you treat it right  )

£400 could be used for lots of other things - buy your wife some flowers and put the rest in a pot for maintenance

Reducing the weight of the wheels gives the biggest bang for your buck in terms of reducing overall bike weight as reducing the rotating mass means that less effort is required to get the wheels turning and therefore faster acceleration.

The Ksyrium Elites which are fitted to the Pro are the best part of 400 quid anyway so if you spend the 400 quid saved on some better wheels you've still got a 105 equipped bike for the same amount of money you could have bought the Ultegra equipped bike for. If you think the price difference between the Ksyriums and the Aksiums is about 200 quid the upgrade to Ultegra is the other 200 which is about right.

Do as another poster said...buy your wife/gf/significant other some flowers/chocs/dinner, but treat yourself..Saturday is Valentine's Day after all!!
